Author(s): Brockington and Associates, Inc.; Dave Baluha
Year: 2018
Summary
Archaeological investigations at 38DR375-Locus 1 identified two distinct occupations: an early eighteenth- to mid-nineteenth-century occupation related to Clay Hill Plantation activities and a late nineteenth- to early twentieth-century tenant farm settlement. These investigations identified multiple activity areas, including six distinct structures (Structures 1-6), across 38DR375-Locus 1, all of which formed part of the former Clay Hill Plantation settlement. These structures include a privy associated with the slave settlement (Structure 1), a possible overseer’s residence (Structure 2), the main house and kitchen complex and attached porches or sheds (Structures 3A-3D and 4), an unknown structure (Structure 5), and one other residence (Structure 6).
