Summary
Tijeras Pueblo (LA 581) is a Late Precontact, or Pueblo IV period (1275-1400), archaeological site located within the modern village of Tijeras, situated in Tijeras Canyon. Tijeras Canyon is a route that has been used both historically and prehistorically as a passageway between eastern New Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley. This field-based geologic resource survey was completed in conjunction with lab analyses of ceramics housed at the Maxwell Museum, University of New Mexico. These ceramics were collected during excavations at Tijeras Pueblo completed during the 1970s. The two joined studies were meant to better the understanding of human ceramic traditions at Tijeras Pueblo.
