VAFB-2020-07: Identification of Historic Properties and Assessment of Effects, Vandenberg Dunes Golf Course Project, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Santa Barbara County, California
Author(s): Christopher Ryan
Year: 2020
Summary
This document is a Section 106 report for the identification and assessment of effects for archaeological resources that are associated with the Vandenberg Dunes Golf Course Project. Vandenberg AFB proposes to enter into an Enhanced Use Lease with MLK Consulting, LLC to develop 1,273 acres for recreational golf. Modifications on the base to support the lease agreement encompass an additional 126 acres for expansion and realignment of utilities and for natural resources mitigation areas. The proposed golf course development would subsume the existing 250-acre Marshallia Golf Course that closed in 2016. The proposed Project would be a substantial upgrade to the Marshallia Golf Course and ultimately include five separate golf courses and associated facilities and infrastructure. The report delineates an Area of Direct Impact and an Area of Potential Effect (APE). There are 21 archaeological resources within the APE consisting of the San Antonio Terrace Archaeological District (SATAD), 10 sites that are elements of the SATAD, 4 historic era sites, one archaeological site that is not associated with the SATAD, and five historic built environment resources.
