VAFB-2020-37: Cultural Resource Investigations to Support Compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act for Development of the Vandenberg Dunes Golf Courses on Vandenberg Air Force Base, Santa Barbara County, California (2017-G)
Author(s): Eric S. Nocerino
Year: 2020
Summary
Vandenberg Air Force Base (AFB) proposes to enter into an Enhanced Use Lease with MLK Consulting, LLC (MLK) wherein MLK would develop approximately 1,273 acres to include multiple golf courses and supporting services. The proposed development, to be known as the Vandenberg Dunes Golf Courses, would subsume the existing 250-acre Marshallia Ranch Golf Course and substantially upgrade it to ultimately include five separate golf courses and associated facilities and infrastructure. Vandenberg AFB determined that the proposed Vandenberg Dunes Golf Courses Project (Project) is an undertaking subject to compliance with Section 106 [codified at 54 USC 306108] of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended [54 USC 300101 et seq.: Historic Preservation]. Lease of federal land is an undertaking subject to Section 106 [codified at 54 USC 306108] of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended, [54 USC 300101 et seq.: Historic Preservation] and the implementing regulations in Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 800 (36 CFR 800). This report is intended to support U.S. Air Force compliance with Section 106.
