Department of Defense (DOD) High Energy Research and Technology Facility (HERTF) Powerline and Communication Line: A Cultural Resources Survey, Sandia Ranger District, Cibola National Forest, Bernalillo County

Author(s): John S. Hayden

Year: 1990

Summary

It was determined that a portion of subject project was not in compliance. Clearance had been obtained previously for the High Energy Research and Technology Facility (HERTF) Site proper. However, the Department of Defense (DOD) constructed the 46KV powerline prior to obtaining clearance. Areas involved in the powerline construction and access were systematically walked and visually inspected. Alignments were considered to be approximately 50 feet wide and were surveyed in strips 15-20 apart. The two sites found were covered at closer intervals. The buried communication line excavation which crosses the ridge on which Site No. AR-03-03-05-219 is located should be monitored. This monitoring can be accomplished by a District para-archeologist.
