Phase I Archaeological Survey of Timber Harvest and Thinning Areas Scheduled for 1997 and Phase I 'Plus' Archaeological Investigations of Site 40CF247 at Arnold Air Force Base (AEDC), Coffee and Franklin Counties, Tennessee

Author(s): Jodi L. Johnson

Year: 1997

Summary

A Phase I archaeological survey was conducted by Du Vall & Associates, Inc. at the request of the Tennessee Chapter of The Nature Conservancy in conjunction with the United States Air Force. This area spans portions of both Coffee and Franklin counties, between the Duck and Elk Rivers, in southern Middle Tennessee. This survey was completed as part of a contract for a five year (1996-2000) assessment of cultural resources on selected land tracts currently maintained as pine timber stands. In particular, those tracts which were designated for harvest/ thinning during the 1997 calendar year were the subject of these investigations. The archaeological survey was conducted to locate any cultural resources existing within the project area in order to prevent the possible damage which may result from the harvest/ thinning process.
