Report on the Creation of the Dyess AFB Archaeology Digital Archive and its Long-term Use

Summary

The creation of a digital archaeology archive for Dyess AFB is part of a pilot program to investigate the feasibility of using the Digital Archaeological Record repository (tDAR) as a safe and long-term repository for archaeological information important for the management and protection of important archaeological resources that are the responsibility of the US Air Force.

The overall project, “Digitize and Store Information within the Digital Archaeological Record (tDAR)” is carried out under a contract administered by Geo-Marine, Inc., for the US Air Force Air Combat Command. The Dyess AFB portion of the program was organized in two phases: (1) assembling, reviewing, and organizing the digital resources (documents, images, and data sets) related to the archaeological resources of Dyess AFB; and (2) the archiving of these documents in tDAR.
