The Politics of Pots: Becoming New Communities in the Historic Northern Rio Grande (2018)
DOCUMENT Citation Only Valerie Bondura.

In contemporary New Mexico, the tripartite division of presumed "Anglo", "Indian", and "Hispano" ethnic communities is naturalized in scholarship and in everyday life, but projecting this division into the past elides diverse historical realities. Pueblo, Apache, and vecino notions of community and landscape stand in contrast to the American imaginaries that underpin some historical anthropology and archaeology in the Southwest. This paper considers the archaeological interpretation of...

Politics, The Public, And Archaeology In Texas (2017)

This is an abstract from the session entitled "New Research on the “Old Colony”: Recent Approaches to Plymouth Archaeology" , at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology. Questions of land—who owns it, who controls it, who alters it—are central to human relationships, particularly in colonial contexts where power dynamics are embedded within the physical landscape. In Massachusetts, land was central to cooperation and conflict between the Wampanoag and English. Land...

POLLEN ANALYSIS FROM SITE 8LL45, CALUSA ISLAND, LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA (2017)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Linda Scott Cummings.

Sediment samples were collected beneath an oyster shell and from open matrix for pollen analysis from Calusa Island (8LL45), Florida. Radiocarbon dates on marine shell and mangrove wood charcoal provide intercepts of 825 and 765 BC. Pollen analysis of these two samples provides record of local vegetation and allows comparison of pollen preservation, measured by total pollen concentration, from these two contexts.

POLLEN AND PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS AT SITE 77BC00056 ON THE BIG CYPRESS SEMINOLE INDIAN RESERVATION, FLORIDA (2012)
DOCUMENT Full-Text Chad Yost. Linda Scott Cummings.

Three sediment samples were submitted for pollen and phytolith analysis from the Waxy Hadjo’s Landing Site (77BC00056), located on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation, Florida. Paired pollen and phytolith samples were collected near the edge of a tree island and off the tree island to examine the past vegetation for this area. In addition, pollen and phytolith analyses were used to recover and identify microscopic plant remains that may be derived from plants of economic importance.
