Subsurface investigations were conducted at two locations in the north coastal region of Bellows Air Force Station, O’ahu, to determine the presence of cultural deposits and to evaluate the impact of proposed construction for a multipurpose court complex and a restroom facility on archaeological resources. The auguring of thirteen test holes at the proposed, multipurpose court complex site found no indication of prehistoric cultural activity.

Results of a one week surface and subsurface archaeological reconnaissance survey are discussed. A subsurface gray sand archaeological layer was documented in portions of the proposed OMNI antenna project area at Bellows AFS. In situ deposits were found to occur in discontinuous remains in both the central portion of the cable trench area and the antenna pad area. The results of a subsurface inventory survey conducted at Bellows Air Force Station (BAFS) are reported. The survey area followed a 1.8 km fuel pipeline and transected BAFS from Keolu Hills to Waimanalo Bay. Twenty-three backhoe trenches and three controlled test units were excavated.
