EMAP Lee – LA70258 Unit 1, 1991 (1991)
85NM612 is a small roomblock on the first terrace on the north side of Palomas Creek (Figure 1). The site was chosen for excavation because of its potential to yield information on questions related to the abandonment of the Mimbres Valley. Nelson (1991) has suggested that the abandonment of the Mimbres drainage in AD1150 was not characterized by a large scale migration but involved the reorganization of large residential pueblos into smaller organizational units which moved into marginal areas...
EMAP Lee – LA70258 Unit 10 & 11, 1991 (1991)
In general the excavation of units 10 and 11 left us with some new insight. We have discovered that a surface, whether actually prepared, could be found archaeologically. The artifacts which were collected will help with comparison and interpretation of intramural areas and between sites.
EMAP Lee – LA70258 Unit 2, 1991 (1991)
Unit 2 is a small Pueblo room located at the southwest corner of a six room roomblock that forms the major construction feature of 85NM612. It was initially defined as a habitation room based on surface evidence of large cobble wall alignments and wall fall. The room was selected for excavation based on its corner location and the definition of its walls. Excavated areas associated with unit 2 include the room itself and areas excavated outside the room during definition of wall locations.
EMAP Lee – LA70258 Unit 3, 1991 (1991)
Unit 3 is a habitation room located in the southeast corner of a six-room room block that forms the major construction feature of 85NM612. It was selected for excavation due to its corner location, wall definition and because of the substantial amount of wall fall relative to other rooms at the site. Excavated areas of the unit include the room itself and areas excavated outside the room during initial definition of wall locations. Note that two loci (2-2-5 and 2-3-9) originally excavated as...
EMAP Lee – LA70258 Unit 4, 1991 (1991)
Unit 4 is a shallow depression which is cut into the bedrock conglomerate at 85NM612. The depression is spatially located beneath two pueblo rooms (Units 1 and 2) which are visible on the surface of the site (see figure 1). The depression extends beyond the western walls of the pueblo rooms therefore the edges of Unit 4 which were located west of the surface rooms were not defined during the 1991 excavations. From the area exposed, the depression appears oval in form.
