POLLEN ANALYSIS AND IDENTIFICATION OF PLANT REMAINS PRIOR TO RADIOCARBON DATING FOR AN AREA WEST OF CEDAR CITY, UTAH (2004)
Two soil samples from a human-modified ephemeral stream west of Cedar City, Utah, were submitted for pollen analysis to determine if either of these samples represents lacustrine conditions. In addition, macrofloral remains saved from the two pollen samples and an individual charcoal sample were examined for organic material to submit for radiocarbon dating.
POLLEN ANALYSIS, PHYTOLITH ANALYSIS, AND RADIOCARBON DATING OF CHARCOAL FROM TUMULUS SEDIMENTS, LA REVIVE, FRANCE (2005)
Pollen and phytolith analysis of two samples from a tumulus at La Revive, France, raised questions concerning the interpretation of the sediments and reproducibility of results. In an attempt to answer specific questions, three additional samples were submitted for pollen and phytolith analysis during 2005. These three samples also were floated to recover charcoal fragments that were AMS radiocarbon dated. Specific questions included dating Strata 4, 8, and 9. Stratum 4 might have been a...
POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS AT SITE 36LU311 FOR THE EIGHTH STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT, PENNSYLVANIA (2000)
Eighty pollen samples were examined to provide a paleoenvironmental record at Site 36LU311 (Site XE2661, the Area of Potential Effects (APE)) for the Eighth Street Bridge Replacement Project in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The samples are from excavations carried out by Brigham Young University in 2001, 2002, and 2003. These sites represent Formative occupations of the area, with both Fremont and Kayenta Anasazi adaptations present. Charcoal samples were identified prior to submission for radiocarbon dating. Pollen and macrofloral analyses will be used to address subsistence and...
POLLEN, PHYTOLlTH, AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM THE LEWIS AND CLARK LOWER PORTAGE CAMP, SITE 24CH293, MONTANA (2001)
Four fire features, an ashy layer, and an area of possible cooking pot spill from various units at the Lewis and Clark Lower Portage Camp, site 24CH293, near Great Falls, Montana, were examined for pollen, starch granules, phytoliths, and macrofloral remains. These analyses will provide a record of vegetation and possibly indicate food resources utilized by the expedition at this camp. Additional fill from two of the features thought to be related to the Lewis and Clark Lower Portage Camp...
