In this report, the results of data recovery efforts conducted for the Palo Verde to Pinal West transmission line project at the Gillespie Dam site, AZ T:13:18 (ASM), in the Gila Bend area of the Gila River are presented. Data recovery investigations in Locus 2 of 38BK1627 examined archaeological artifacts and deposits associated with two Post-Contact occupations of the site. Originally thought to represent an isolated slave settlement and later freedman’s tenant settlement, Locus 2 proved to contain the remnants of an early-eighteenth-century occupation of descendents of Robert Daniell as well as an extensive postbellum tenant occupation.
