STARCH, PROTEIN, AND ORGANIC RESIDUE (FTIR) ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM SITE 48SW16971, SWEETWATER COUNTY, WYOMING
Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Melissa K. Logan; Chad Yost
Year: 2010
Summary
Thirty-six samples, consisting of feature fill, groundstone, fire-cracked rock, and soil controls, from 48SW16971, a multi-component site located southwest of Wamsutter, Wyoming were submitted for starch, protein, and organic residue analysis. Samples were tested for organic residues using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Site 48SW16971 is comprised of Transitional Archaic and Formative components that have been identified through radiocarbon dating of unspecified charred materials from numerous features at the site. Starch, protein, and organic residue analysis of the samples will be used to gain information regarding materials utilized and processed at the site, as well as plants present in the local environment during site occupation.
