Summary

This document details the data recovery results for mitigation of adverse effects to 30 archaeological sites within the 3,185-acre private development known as Talking Rock Ranch located approximately 17 miles northwest of Prescott in Williamson Valley, Yavapai County, Arizona. EnviroSystems Management, Inc. conducted archaeological data recovery investigations at these sites at the request of Harvard Investments, Inc. (the landowner and developer). The development required an Individual Permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, the issuance of which was subject to the provisions of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

This data recovery report contains 16 chapters, references, and three appendixes. The chapters are: (1) Introduction, (2) Research Orientation and Treatment Plan, (3) Rock Art Sites, (4) Prehistoric Artifact Scatters or Camps, (5) Prehistoric Habitation Sites without Structures, (6) Prehistoric Habitation Sites with a Single Structure, (7) Prehistoric Habitation Sites with Multiple Structures, (8) Historic Sites, (9) Ceramic Analysis, (10) Flaked Stone Analysis, (11) Ground Stone Analysis, (12) Faunal Remains Analysis, (13) Shell Analysis, (14) Botanical Analysis, (15) Analysis of Human Remains, and (16) Research Synthesis. The appendixes are: (A) Absolute Dating Results, (B) Obsidian Sourcing, and (C) Artifact Analysis Codes.
