Summary
On March 24, 1988 a cultural resources survey was completed by Soil Systems, Inc. (SSI) for the City of Mesa, Department of Parks and Recreation and Department of Engineering, within Park of the Canals, a National Register Property administered by the City of Mesa. The four areas examined within the park have been proposed as possible sites for the construction of a Desert Botanical Garden.
This report is organized into six sections. Section one presents the background of Park of the Canals to provide a context for evaluating proposed impacts to the park. In section two, proposed park development and cultural resource management, the guidelines used for defining and evaluating impacts to the park are discussed. In sections three and four, survey methods and results are presented. Section five is a detailed impact assessment for each survey area. In the final section, recommendations for the location and construction of the desert botanical garden are given.
