Summary
Northland Research, Inc. (Northland) has completed an archaeological survey of 98.0 acres (39.7 hectares) in Maricopa County, Arizona for Salt River Project and Arizona Public Service. The work accomplished included an archaeological survey, review of pertinent archaeological literature, and an examination of historical records. Northland’s survey was conducted between May 25 to June 4, 2001 and July 22, 2001 under authority of its Arizona State Museum permit #2001 -33bl. Mark Hackbarth served as the project director. John Marshall and Dave Hart assisted with the survey.
The survey was conducted as part of the application process for the Southwest Valley 500 kV Transmission Line project, right-of-way Application No. 14-106629. The proposed transmission line is a combined effort of Arizona Public Service and Salt River Project. The archaeological survey was conducted in compliance with Arizona regulations governing cultural resources on Arizona State Land Department properties and 36CFR800.
Northland examined a 200-ft (60 m) wide corridor across five noncontiguous parcels of Arizona State Land Department property, plus a 30-acre block (Table 1). Three sites and 31 isolated finds were discovered.
