Revisiting Ria de Aveiro A (Portugal): a new approach to early modern Atlantic shipbuilding and maritime trade
Author(s): Patrícia Carvalho
Year: 2013
Summary
In 1992 the remains of an early-modern vessel were found in the Ria de Aveiro (Portugal). This discovery led to the development of an interdisciplinary research project between 1996 and 2005 that allowed the study of the site formation processes, of Atlantic shipbuilding, and the earthenware production in the Aveiro-Ovar region and their commercial circulation. In this paper, we present the last archaeological research about the ship and the new data concerning the maritime trade of the ceramics in the Atlantic.
