Author(s): S. Jerome Hesse
Year: 2002
Summary
This document combines the preliminary results of archaeological eligibility testing at AZ BB:9:360 (ASM) with a data recovery plan-of-work based on the results of testing. This document was prepared at the request of Merry, Carnell, Schlecht, Inc., on behalf of the Tanque Verde Unified School District.
Archaeological testing at AZ BB:9:360 (ASM) involved controlled surface collection and the excavation of three backhoe trenches totaling 77 m in length. Three archaeological features including two probable pit structures and one indeterminate cultural depression were discovered during trenching. A cursory examination of decorated ceramics suggests that the site was occupied during the Colonial period as well as possibly the Sedentary period. Based on these results, SWCA recommends site AZ BB:9:360 (ASM) as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Part II of this document is a research design and recommended data recovery plan-of-work.
SWCA, Inc., Environmental Consultants (SWCA) has developed this document combining the preliminary results of archaeological eligibility testing at AZ BB:9:360 (ASM) with a data recovery plan of-work based on the results of testing. This document was prepared at the request of Andrew Schlecht, of Merry, Carnell, Schlecht, Inc., on behalf of the Tanque Verde Unified School District. Site AZ BB:9:360 (ASM) in Pima County, Arizona. AZ BB:9:360 (ASM) was initially recorded during a pedestrian survey of the property conducted by Professional Archaeological Services of Tucson (P.A.S.T.) on April 5 and 7, 2000 (Stephen 2001), at which time the information gathered from the surface expression of the site was insufficient to make a National Register eligibility recommendation. Archaeological testing of the site was conducted by SWCA on October 4 and 9, 2002, the results from which suggest that the site is National Register eligible. The preliminary results of testing and a recommended data recovery plan to mitigate potential adverse effects follows.
