Author(s): Linda Scott Cummings; Lee Drake
Year: 2018
Summary
Site CA-MRP-0056/H, located in Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County, is situated in a glacially-scoured granitic basin at an elevation of 3,989 feet. This complex site is situated in a region occupied by the Penutian-speaking Central Sierra Miwok and Southern Sierra Miwok, the Bridgeport Valley Paiute, Mono Lake Paiute, and the Mono-speaking Owens Valley Paiute. The Washoe entered the northern park area as far south as Yosemite Valley. Previous analysis of artifacts, which included starch, FTIR, and protein residue analysis from CA-MRP-305/H, is reported in Cummings and Yost (2009). Artifacts recovered from this site were submitted for protein residue and/or pollen and starch analysis (Table 1).
