Summary
In 2008, Meridian Engineering Company (Meridian) requested that SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) conduct a cultural resources record search and a due diligence pedestrian survey within an approximately 20-acre parcel for planning purposes, in anticipation of purchasing the property. During this project, a small prehistoric artifact scatter was identified within the project parcel, and additional documentation was recommended prior to development (Barr 2008). For the current project, Meridian contracted SWCA to prepare a survey report with the results of the previously conducted survey that meets Pima County and Arizona State Museum (ASM) standards. The report was prepared to comply with Pima County requirements under Chapter 18.81 of the Pima County Zoning Code and the Pima County grading permit process. The survey area consists of privately owned land in unincorporated Pima County.
An archaeological survey of the project area resulted in the identification of one newly recorded archaeological site, AZ BB:13:810 (ASM), and no isolated occurrences. AZ BB:13:810 (ASM) is a small, discrete Hohokam Ceramic period artifact scatter consisting of ceramic sherds and a few flaked stone artifacts. Most of the site is located outside the project parcel on land owned by Pima County. AZ BB:13:810 (ASM) is recommended eligible for listing in the NRHP. In consultation with Meridian, the development plan for this parcel has been designed to avoid any impacts to AZ BB:13:810 (ASM). Therefore, SWCA recommends that this project will have a finding of no historic properties affected.
