Author(s): J. Scott Courtright
Year: 2006
Summary
The results of backhoe trenching and data recovery excavation at the site of Pueblo del Rio within SunState Builders’ parcel. The area consists of 77.72 acres of land previously tested in 2005 (Lots 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14) and in 2006 (Lots 8, 9, 10, and 11). Following the completion of extensive backhoe trenching in the various lots, twelve feature areas containing likely habitation structures, relic canals, and burials were selected for data recovery— three along the planned road corridors in 2005 and nine (Feature Clusters 1 -9 ) in 2006.
Overall, 105 features w ere sampled or completely excavated during the 2005 and 2006 data recovery fieldwork. With the completion of these excavations, Logan Simpson Design (LSD) has obtained sufficient data to address the research questions specified in the 2005 testing plan approved by PGM and entitled: A Treatment Plan for Testing and Data Recovery at Pueblo del Rio/AZ T:12:116 (ASM), Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. As outlined in the Treatment Plan, the research domains that guided data recovery investigations at Pueblo del Rio included: 1) chronology, 2) land use and environmental context, 3) settlement and subsistence patterns, 4) trade and exchange, and 5) canal irrigation.
