Peacekeeper Program Component Effect Report #10 Launch Facilities Site Work and Access Roads Modifications (Phase 1)
Summary
Cultural resources survey and archival research conducted for Phase 1 (fiscal year 1985) of the Launch Facilities (LF) Site Work and Access Roads Modifications Component of the Peacekeeper Program resulted in the discovery of 19 prehistoric and historic cultural properties and 4 isolated artifacts. The Air Force, in consultation with the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), has determined that 11 of these properties are eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Proposed actions included as part of Phase 1 will have no effect on nine of these NRHP-eligible properties but will have an adverse effect on the remaining two. Adverse effects to these two properties will be mitigated through implementation of a data recovery program.
An inhabited building and associated outbuildings occur within a proposed extension of the Quantity Distance (OD) safety zone around one of the LFs. Specific actions relating to QD requirements will be determined after negotiation with the landowner. If it is necessary to vacate the residence, the complex of structures will be inventoried and evaluated for eligibility for listing in the NRHP. Peacekeeper Program effects and mitigation measures relating to extension of the OD will be the subject of a supplement to this Component Effect Report (CER).
