This survey of the Melrose Air Force Range (MAFR) was conducted from June through August, 1995. Final field recording of all the cultural resources continued on a part time basis through the spring of 1996. A total of 10,120 acres were surveyed and inventoried with a pedestrian survey.

A total of 11,410 acres were surveyed and inventoried using close interval pedestrian survey methods. The survey crews found and recorded 19 prehistoric sites and 8 historic sites. In addition, the survey crews found and recorded 121 isolated manifestations of cultural activity. Four prehistoric archaeological sites (LA 113772, LA 113774, LA 113781, and LA 115285) were considered to have the information potential needed for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

The Melrose Bombing Range Survey, conducted from October to August 1994, covered T1N, R31E, sections 5, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 33, and 34; and T1S, R29E. section 1. A total of 6,400 acres were examined using pedestrian survey techniques. The survey crew recorded 5 prehistoric sites and 8 historic sites. There were also 166 isolated manifestations, which are both prehistoric and historic in nature.

A total of 34 archaeological/historical resources were recorded within the project area of which 25 were classified as sites and 9 as isolates or artifact clusters. An additional 10 loci were identified as having potential cultural significance but concrete data were not obtainable at the time of the survey.
