Summary
"S&ME, Inc. (S&ME), on behalf of Wyatt Realty Investment Opportunity Fund, has completed a Phase I archaeological survey of approximately 338 acres in Areas A, B, and D and Phase II testing at sites 38AK940 and 38AK1015 at the Sage Mill/Pine Tree Tract in Aiken County, South Carolina (Figures 1 and 2). Phase I fieldwork for the project was conducted from October 19 through November 8, 2011. Phase II fieldwork was conducted from December 12–17, 2011. This work was done in anticipation of compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, and was conducted in general accordance with S&ME Proposal Numbers 1616-8392-11 Rev. 1, dated October 14, 2011, and 1616-8462-11, dated November 9, 2011. Based on the results of the Phase I and II investigations, S&ME recommends that sites 38AK619, 38AK941, 38AK1013, 38AK1014, and 38AK1015 are ineligible for the NRHP and that no further cultural resource investigations are needed in Areas A and D. Site 38AK940, located in Area B, is eligible for inclusion in the NRHP and should be avoided. If avoidance is not possible, then consultation with the SHPO, federal agencies, and other consulting parties should be conducted to resolve potential adverse effects to site 38AK940. The remainder of Area B contains no historic properties and no additional cultural resource investigations should be necessary for this area."

Notes
General Note: "S&ME has completed a Phase I archaeological survey of approximately 338 acres in Areas A, B, and D and Phase II testing at sites 38AK940 and 38AK1015 at the Sage Mill/Pine Tree Tract in Aiken County. As a result of these investigations, three previously recorded archaeological sites have been re-located, 38AK619, 38AK940, and 38AK941, and three new archaeological sites have been identified, 38AK1013, 38AK1014, and 38AK1015. Based on these results, S&ME recommends that sites 38AK619, 38AK941, 38AK1013, 38AK1014, and 38AK1015 are ineligible for the NRHP and that no further cultural resource investigations are needed in Areas A and D. Site 38AK940, located in Area B, is eligible for inclusion in the NRHP and should be avoided. If avoidance is not possible, then consultation with the SHPO, federal agencies, and other consulting parties should be conducted to resolve potential adverse effects to site 38AK940.
