The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) has identified approximately 1,270 acres of land for a Class III (intensive) cultural resource survey for Section 110 inventory purposes. The land was withdrawn for the Salt River Project (SRP) and is located upstream from the Granite Reef Diversion Dam on the south side of the Salt River. The withdrawn land is within the Tonto National Forest (TNF).
At the request of Reclamation, Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) conducted an intensive cultural resources survey of the project area to provide an inventory and assessment of cultural resources that might occur within the parcel. The fieldwork was conducted between February 28 and March 22, 2007, by Joanne C. Tactikos, Eric Dosh, Gabe Montgomery, Thomas Jones IV, and Jonathan Spiandorello, with an additional visit on April 27, 2007 by Joanne C. Tactikos and Thomas Jones IV, working under noncollection permit TON572 issued by TNF. Twelve sites and 233 isolated occurrences were identified.
