Author(s): Laurene G. Montero

Year: 1993

Summary

This report presents the results of a Class III cultural resources survey of 41 areas along the east coast of Lake Havasu in Mohave County, Arizona. The survey areas are all on land owned by the United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management (BLM), leased to the Arizona State Parks Board (ASPB). This survey was conducted to obtain cultural resources clearance for a project designed to develop new camp sites and improve existing campsites for boaters enjoying the resources of Lake Havasu State Park and Cattail Cove State Park. The project is to be funded by a State Lake Improvement Fund grant.

The Havasu survey was conducted on October 6, 7, 21, and 22, 1993. Approximately 4.5 person days were expended on this survey. The crew consisted of the Arizona State Parks Archaeologist, Laurene Montero; Ms. Montero was taken by boat to each site by park staff. Mr. Jim Wilson and Mr. Gerald Emert of Lake Havasu State Park, and Mr. Tim Kristoff of Cattail Cove State Park escorted Ms. Montero to campsites and provided information on the park and the natural environment. Two archaeological sites and 19 isolated artifact occurrences were identified. Archaeological sites were described, mapped, and photographed, and their information recorded on Arizona State Museum site cards. Isolated occurrences were plotted on USGS maps and described on BLM IO forms.
