Archaeological Clearance Investigations: Salt River Project Coronado Generating Station Concho Well Field, Private Lands, Apache County, Arizona: Final Report for Avoidance and Mitigation Program; Two Production and Observation Well Sites, and Associated Access Right-of-Way Within the Concho Well Field
Author(s): John R. Stein
Year: 1976
Summary
On March 16 and 24, 1976, the Museum of Northern Arizona, at the request of the Salt River Project, conducted a clearance oriented survey of archaeological resources to be affected by the proposed construction of well sites and access roads within the Concho Well Field. Of specific concern at this time were the proposed well sites designated as production and observation well C-18, production and observation well C-24, and approximately two miles of access right-of-way connecting the well sites with U. S. 180A. During the course of the survey it was determined that five sites of archaeological importance would be adversely affected by the proposed construction of the well sites and access roads. Therefore, on May 7-17, 1976, the Museum of Northern Arizona, in cooperation with Salt River Project personnel, implemented a program of avoidance and mitigation of archaeological resources directly affected by the proposed construction. It is the intent of this report to document the nature and extent of the action taken to minimize the adverse effects of the proposed construction on these resources. The results of the archaeological investigations and recommendations for archaeological clearance are presented in this report.
