Salt River Project, Coronado Generating Station, Coal Haul Railroad - Realignments 1 & 2, Private, Federal, and State Lands, Apache County, Arizona: Final Report for Preliminary Evaluation of Realignments 1 and 2 of Coronado Generating Station Coal Haul Railroad

Author(s): J. James Trott

Year: 1976

Summary

At the request of Salt River Project, an evaluation of Realignments 1 and 2 of the proposed D-2 alignment of the Coronado Generating Station Coal Haul Railroad has been prepared. Archaeological investigations of both realignments were conducted on two occasions. On April 13, 1976, an aerial reconnaissance of the realignments was conducted and on May 3-7, 1976, the proposed locations of 24 bore holes and 19 test pits, located along the realignment were surveyed. Based on information collected from these investigations and data obtained during a previous Museum of Northern Arizona study of the original D-2 alignment, a general evaluation of Realignments 1 and 2 has been prepared. Results of the study suggest that, except for the Hardscrabble Wash area, little difference in the impact on archaeological resources may be expected between the Original Alignment and Realignments 1 and 2.
