Author(s): Walter R. Punzmann; Glennda Gene Luhnow

Year: 2013

Summary

Cox Communications, Inc. (Cox) recently conducted a utility installation to a private residence located at East Virginia Street, Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. The utility installation required directional drilling on a City of Phoenix (City) utility easement. This location is within the boundary of AZ T:12:37(ASM)/Casa Buena, a Hohokam habitation site that contains known architectural feature, extramural features, and human remains. Given that the project was located on a City easement, and within the boundaries of a known cultural resource site, project construction was subject to compliance with the Arizona Antiquities Act (A.R.S. 41-842, 41-844, 41 865), the State Historic Preservation Act (A.R.S. 41-861, 41-511, 41-1352), and the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Ordinance Section 802(A.1). Since the project was a private utility installation, no Archaeological Assessment was issued for the project by the City Archaeology Office (CAO). Project no. 2013-021.PGM was assigned to the project by the CAO.

At the request of Mr. Jason Ormond of Tetra Tech, Inc. (Tetra Tech), Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. (ACS) was retained to conduct cultural resource monitoring for the construction of the project. Working under the terms of project-specific permit no. 2013-106ps and burial agreement case no. 2013-037 issued by Arizona State Museum (ASM), ACS conducted the work on September 24, 2013. A total of one person field-day was expended during the project. No cultural resources were identified.
