The Dalrymple Parcels: Archaeological Testing Results and Data Recovery Plan for AZ AA:12:869 (ASM), Pima County, Arizona
Author(s): India S. Hesse
Year: 2005
Summary
Archaeological test excavations at site AZ AA:12:869 (ASM) within the Dalrymple parcels resulted in the discovery of one probable prehistoric pithouse, two prehistoric pits, and one historical hearth. Archival research into the historic component of the site led to the discovery of an early local horse slaughtering and dog food production industry physically evidenced by a slaughterhouse that is recommended eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
Additional archaeological data recovery investigations at AZ AA:12:869 (ASM) are recommended to provide information significant to our understanding of the prehistoric and historic occupation of the area and to mitigate the effects of the proposed development. Limited scraping, exploratory stripping, and controlled excavation is recommended for the three prehistoric features, as well as any features that may exist in their vicinity. Additional research, informant interviews, archival photography, measured elevations and plan drawings, and production of a report suitable for local archives are recommended to further document the eligible historic component and mitigate adverse effects.
SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) has developed this document combining the results of archaeological testing at AZ AA12:869 (ASM) with a data recovery plan-of-work based on the results of testing. This document was prepared at the request of William DiVito of Shannon Business Park LLC.
