Archaeological Survey for the Grand Valley Circuits 13 and 14 Upgrade, Pima County, Arizona
Author(s): Eric S. Petersen
Year: 2013
Summary
Trico Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Trico) proposes to use Rural Utility Service (RUS)-administered federal funds to upgrade the Circuits 13 and 14 existing overhead electric line within the town of Marana, Pima County, Arizona. The proposed upgrade will involve replacing an overhead single-phase line with an overhead three-phase, double circuit line to help support the Thornydale substation’s load during peak load conditions and to improve system reliability. The upgrade will involve using existing roads within Trico’s existing easements on Arizona State Land Department (ASLD)-administered land. Trico contracted SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA) to conduct an archaeological survey of the project corridor to identify any cultural resources that may be affected by the proposed upgrade. The existing easement is a 20-foot (6-meter [m]) right-of-way (ROW).
An archaeological survey of the project area resulted in the identification of three previously recorded archaeological sites (AA AA:12:608 [ASM], AZ AA:12:611 [ASM], and AZ AA:12:612 [ASM]). All three sites are recommended eligible for listing in the NRHP.
