Summary

Archaeological testing was conducted at the Sunset Colony residential development parcel in Mesa, Arizona. Test trenches were excavated to identify the presence and distribution of subsurface features Nine prehistoric features were identified and a site number was assigned to this area. AZ U:9:148 (ASM) The features included 2 pits and 7 irrigation features. One of the irrigation features, a canal, max represent an extension of canal alignments that were documented in the early part of this century. These irrigation features appear to have been constructed and used by the Hohokam sometime between AD 800 and 1450. This testing program successfully documented and recorded the resources within the project area No further archaeological work is recommended.
