Archaeological Survey for the Dove Valley Ranch Project, North Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona
Author(s): Michael Stubing; Douglas R. Mitchell
Year: 1997
Summary
This report presents the results of a Class III archaeological survey conducted on 500 acres of land in north Phoenix, Arizona. The survey was conducted for PK Development LLC prior to their proposed development of the area. SWCA conducted the survey under an Arizona Antiquities Act permit (97-03). The project area consisted of 500 acres of privately-owned land: one irregularly-shaped parcel contains 480 acres and a smaller adjacent parcel contains 20 acres.
The survey located a total of four sites, including two new sites (AZ U:1:262 [ASM] and AZ U:1:263 [ASM]), and two previously recorded sites (AZ U:1:11 [ASM] and AZ U:1:110 [ASM]). Three isolated occurrences were also recorded. In addition, the entire project area with the exception of the twenty acre parcel was found to contain a low density artifact scatter. The three sites are considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Avoidance is recommended for these sites. If the sites cannot be avoided then further archaeological work is recommended. No further work is recommended for site AZ U:1:110 (ASM) or the isolated occurrences.
