Archaeological Testing and Monitoring of the Reclaimed Pipeline Project (Phase 1)
Author(s): Catherine Gilman; Deborah L. Swartz
Year: 1998
Summary
Archaeological testing and monitoring was requested by the City of Tucson and Tucson Water due to the potentially sensitive areas to be impacted by the Reclaimed Pipeline Project (Phase 1). During this project, 6-in and 24-in potable water pipelines, and 36-in reclaimed water pipelines were installed within three areas of the city.
The project's northern area was neither tested nor monitored, but was given a spot check at the request of the KE&G construction foreman. The central project area, within and adjacent to the Barrio Historico Historic District, was monitored during construction. The southern project was tested by archaeological trenching prior to the placement of the water lines.
This report documents the archaeological testing and monitoring connected with the project during the months of July, August, September and November 1996. This section which covers monitoring was written by Catherine Gilman; the section on testing is by Deborah Swartz, and the analysis of Historic period artifacts (Appendix B) was done by Homer Thiel.
