Preliminary Report on Data Recovery at Fowler Ruin, AZ T:12:245 (ASM), Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona

Author(s): David A. Bild

Year: 2005

Summary

The City of Phoenix (COP) Street Transportation Department and Flood Control District of Maricopa County (FCDMC) are jointly funding a construction project to be undertaken in southwest Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. The project is located north of the historic Roosevelt Irrigation Canal and involves County-owned and private land to be acquired by COP and FCDMC.

The project will involve the construction of a detention basin and conveyance channel. A review of site files and maps at Pueblo Grande Museum (PGM) indicated that portions of the Fowler basin are within the boundaries of a known Hohokam site with canals. At the request of COP, Logan Simpson Design Inc (LSD) prepared a Treatment Plan for phased data recovery in the Fowler basin project area within the boundaries of Fowler Ruin (Walsh 2005). These investigations were completed to comply with Section 802(A.1) of the City’s Historic Preservation Ordinance and with the Arizona Antiquities Act (ARS § 41-861 et. Seq.).
