Author(s): Rick Bryant

Year: 1993

Summary

On February 22, 1993, Rick Bryant monitored backhoe trenching in the area of the new transportation complex. The area was used as a regimental barracks area during WWII, and it was believed that cement footings or floors from the buildings may have been located in the area to be leveled and graded for the new transportation complex buildings. The area was trenched by a back hoe to determine if any foundation remains were extant. No WWII or other historic or prehistoric remains were located.

The area tested is east of School Lane across the street from Building #807. Two area were trenched as shown on the attached map. A few pieces of wood and one concrete piling were uncovered during trenching. The area has been severely surface disturbed during construction, occupation and razing of the barracks during and after WWI. No significant cultural remains are present.
