This document is a Section 106 Tribal Concurrence Letter between the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians (SYBCI) and Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB). MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES FROM SITE CA-SBA-133, SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (2019)
The Santa Barbara Presidio site (CA-SBA-133) is a 19th Century Spanish/Mexican Period site located in Santa Barbara, California. Two bulk sediment samples excavated from a trash pit at the fort were submitted for flotation and macrofloral analysis. The goal of the project is to better understand the trading relationship between the presidio soldiers and the local Chumash tribe.
POLLEN ANALYSIS OF A FLOOR AT CA-SBa-46 (MESCALITAN ISLAND), SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA (1989)
Approximately one-third of the floor of an historic Chumash house was excavated on f1escalitan Island (CA-SBa-46). The floor was sampled for pollen along a 25 cm grid. The floor was clay, while the surrounding floor matrix was sand, so analysis of floor sediments that contained pollen and other debris that had been impressed into the surface was undertaken to identify evidence of subsistence and plant processing activities in the structure.
POLLEN ANALYSIS OF SEDIMENT AND GROUNDSTONE FROM SITE CA-SBA-1823, VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, CALIFORNIA (2000)
Pollen analysis was conducted on six samples from a prehistoric Chumash site (CA-SBA- 1823) in the western Santa Ynez Mountains. A cache of lithic tools that included groundstone was ·recovered. Pollen analysis of washes of two manos was compared with samples from the sediment within the rock cache, sediment outside the rock cache, and two modern control samples.
