Parks, Recreation, and Historic Sites Division plans to enhance an existing trail through the lighthouse complexes at the southern tip of Sapelo Island by replacing existing signage and adding additional interpretive signs. On October 5, 2004 the Georgia Department of Transportation conducted a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey at the request of the Georgia Division of Natural Resources. Two GPR survey grids were placed in the vicinity of the lighthouse on the south end of Sapelo Island.
