Pueblo Grande (AZ U:9:1(ASM)): Unit 08, Pueblo Grande Cultural Park: SSI PG Museum Expansion Data Recovery, Flotation (FLOTATION) Data

Summary

The Pueblo Grande Museum Expansion Data Recovery flotation data sheet provides data on botanical remains that were recovered from flotation samples (or other environmental samples) during the project. It presents the taxon of remains, the condition and completeness, and the weight and volume. The data set also offers data on the samples from which the remains were recovered. Please the Pueblo Grande Museum Expansion Data Recovery final report (http://core.tdar.org/document/373084) for a discussion of botanical analyses.

Column Name Data Type Type Category Coding Sheet Ontology Search
ANALYSIS_FLAG BIGINT  Uncoded Value uncategorized none none true
SITE The ASM site number of site(s) under investigation during a given project.
VARCHAR  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Site none none true
PROJECT The designated SSI project number during which the FS was recovered.
VARCHAR  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Project none none true
PD The Provenience Designation (PD) number. A PD is any area that has been examined by archaeological researchers during a given project. PD numbers are assigned to all examined areas, even when no artifacts were collected. For each site, PD numbers run from 1 to n.
BIGINT  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Horizontal Location none none true
FS The field specimen number assigned to an artifact type from a given PD unit. Note that one FS # is assigned to multiple artifacts of the same type from a single PD unit. See detailed analysis data tables (i.e., ceramic tables, shell tables, etc) for artifact counts. In the field, specimen numbers were assigned to bags of like artifacts from the same PD. When artifacts were collected, a specimen number was assigned to a bag that contained particular artifact types from a PD unit. Thus, a separate FS # was assigned to the ceramics, lithics, groundstone, etc that were recovered from a PD.
BIGINT  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Item/Slash none none true
FEATURE_NUMBER The number of a feature identified and documented in a given PD unit. At each site, feature numbers were assigned from 1 to n. Subfeature numbers include the associated feature number followed by a decimal; subfeature numbers begin at .01 for each feature. For example, the second subfeature excavated in Feature 15 is coded as 15.02.
DOUBLE  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Feature ID/Number none none true
FEATURE_TYPE The inferred type (i.e., function and/or cultural use, significance) of a given feature. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Feature Type Coding Sheet for a complete list of available feature types.
BIGINT  Coded Value Provenience and Context : Feature Type Soil Systems, Inc. Feature Type Coding Sheet none true
ANALYSIS_TYPE The type of flotation and/or botanical analysis being performed on a flotation and/or botanical sample. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Analysis Type Coding Sheet for a complete list of analysis types.
VARCHAR  Coded Value Macrobotanical : Other Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Analysis Type Coding Sheet none true
TAXON The taxon designation of the botanical specimen being examined. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Taxon Coding Sheet for a complete list of available botanical taxa.
BIGINT  Coded Value Macrobotanical : Taxon Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Taxon Coding Sheet none true
CONDITION The preserved condition (e.g., carbonized, partially carbonized, dessicated) of a botanical specimen. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Condition Coding Sheet for a complete list of condition codes.
VARCHAR  Coded Value Macrobotanical : Other Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Condition Coding Sheet none true
COMPLETENESS The completeness (e.g., whole, fragmentary, etc.) of a botanical specimen. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Specimen Completeness Coding Sheet for a complete list of completeness codes.
VARCHAR  Coded Value Macrobotanical : Other Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Specimen Completeness Coding Sheet none true
SP_ML Species milliliters for individually identified wood charcoal.
DOUBLE  Measurement (milliliter) Macrobotanical : Other none none true
CHARCOAL_VOLUME The volume (in milliliters) of charcoal from flotation light fraction.
DOUBLE  Measurement (milliliter) Macrobotanical none none true
CNT The count of identified botanical taxa for each PD and FS.
BIGINT  Count Macrobotanical none none true

SAMPLE_VOLUME The volume (in liters) of a flotation sample. Two to four liters are usual sample volumes.
BIGINT  Measurement (liter) Macrobotanical none none true
SAMPLE_WEIGHT The weight of macrobot, C-14, basketry or other samples. Not recorded for flotation samples.
DOUBLE  Measurement (gram) Macrobotanical none none true
PART The part of a plant (or plant material) that a botanical specimen represents. Examples include seed coat, stem, husk. Please see Soil Systems, Inc. Flotation/Botanical Part Coding Sheet for a full list of part codes.

LIGHT_FRACTION_VOLUME The volume (in milliliters) of flotation light fraction.
DOUBLE  Measurement (milliliter) Macrobotanical none none true
LIGHT_FRACTION_WEIGHT The weight (in grams) of flotation light fraction.
DOUBLE  Measurement (gram) Macrobotanical none none true
CHARCOAL_WEIGHT The weight (in grams) of charcoal from flotation light fraction.
DOUBLE  Measurement (gram) Macrobotanical none none true
CHECK_IT BIGINT  Uncoded Value uncategorized none none true
AUDIT_VERSION The Soil Systems, Inc. relational database originally contained audit tables for each artifact/analysis type to track updates/changes made to the primary data tables. Database managers recorded changes to particular data values in these audit tables. The changes were then passed on to the main data table (e.g., RS_CERAMICS). The AUDIT_VERSION number refers to the "audit number" for that particular row. Thus, if a data row contains an AUDIT_VERSION value of "2", then that row has been updated/changed with the audit-version number 2 (i.e., it has been updated two times).
