Cultural Resources Inventory of Three Routes Crossing BLM and Private Lands to Access the Proposed APS Second Knolls Substation, Navajo County, Arizona
Author(s): EnviroSystems Management, Inc.; Anne Raney
Year: 2007
Summary
The project consists of a Class III cultural resources inventory for three possible access routes to the proposed Second Knolls Substation. Two of the proposed access routes leave State Route (SR) 77 in a westerly direction and follow section lines for 2.35 miles, where they split, one heading north under or adjacent to an existing APS sub-transmission line and one heading north-northwest along the existing Reidhead Road. The third proposed access route follows the northernmost 25 feet of the 330-foot-wide Salt River Project (SRP) Coronado-Dinosaur 500kV transmission line right-of-way (ROW) extending west from SR 77 in Section 2 and ending in Section 5, T14N, R21E. On July 10-13, 2007, Anne Raney, Christine Markussen, and Adam Klatzker with EnviroSystems Management, Inc. (EnviroSystems) surveyed the 330-foot-wide ROW of the existing SRP 500kV transmission line. About 2.03 miles of BLM and private lands were inventoried by walking six 20-m-wide (66-foot) transects. On August 9, 2007, Anne Raney and Jeremi Smith surveyed the other two access routes. About 4.89 miles of BLM and private lands were inventoried by walking one 20-m-wide (66-foot) transect along the existing roads and two 20-m-wide transects at the section corner crossings. As a result, approximately 6.92 miles or 146.67 acres were surveyed, 2.47 miles or 60.98 acres of BLM land and 4.45 miles or 85.69 acres of private land.
