Data Recovery Investigations within the Northeast Portion of Pueblo Del Rio (AZ T:12:116[ASM]), Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona
Author(s): John T. Marshall
Year: 2011
Summary
This report provides documentation for archaeological data recovery within a 6.9 acre parcel located near the northeastern edge of the prehistoric Hohokam village Pueblo del Rio (AZ T:12:116[ASM]). The work was conducted by Northland Research, Inc., for McCall & Associates prior to commercial development of the property. The purpose of the project was to collect information and analyze materials from a sample of features at the site. Features identified include three pit houses, a historical/prehistoric canal, 21 extramural pit features, an extramural surface, and an inhumation.
Results suggest the structures comprise a late Classic period house cluster. The occupation/use date of the structures is ca. A.D. 1300-1350 based on ceramic types recovered. A related double inhumation was also removed and repatriated to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. The canal was profiled and soil samples were collected. Results of the project indicate the boundaries of Pueblo del Rio expand slightly northeast of the known extent of the site as drawn by Howard and Huckleberry (1991). Based on completion of data recovery within the 6.9-acre area of investigation, and mitigation of adverse effects to the cultural resources therein, Northland recommends that no additional archaeological investigation within the project area is necessary.
