Archaeological Monitoring for a City of Phoenix Storm Drain and Paving Project along McDowell Road, Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona
Author(s): Bruce G. Phillips; Jill Heilman
Year: 2010
Summary
AZ T:12:397 (ASM) is a historic canal exposure uncovered on the north side of McDowell Road. Archaeological monitoring of the excavations for waterline improvement uncovered a historic canal (AZ T:12:397 [ASM]). The canal was minimally exposed and its National Register eligibility cannot be assessed at this time. No further archaeological work is recommended for this project. EcoPlan recommends, however, that if future ground disturbing projects are proposed in the vicinity of the canal, archaeological testing or monitoring be conducted prior to (in the case of testing), or during (in the case of monitoring), project activities as a means of mitigating potential adverse effects from project activities.
