Summary

Maricopa County Facilities Management (MCFM) is planning construction of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Complex (MCSOC) in the Original Phoenix Townsite (OPT). Logan Simpson Design, Inc. (LSD) conducted archaeological Phase I data recovery investigations of the project area, which is within a National Register-eligible site, AZ T:12:42(ASM), the OPT. Phase I data recovery investigations included backhoe trench excavation and mapping of the city block.

Eight archaeological features were identified and recorded within the profiles of backhoe trenches: 2 possible prehistoric pit houses, 1 historic cesspool, 1 historic railroad track, 2 possible historic surfaces, 1 historic buried post, and 1 possible demolition zone/railroad grade. No human remains were found.
