A Cultural Resources Survey of 70 Acres of Arizona State Trust Land Department Environmental Restoration Project, Eloy Airfield, Pinal County, Arizona
Author(s): Heidi Roberts
Year: 1995
Summary
On November 29 and December 9, 1994, archaeologists from SWCA, Inc., Environmental Consultants of Tucson, Arizona, conducted an archaeological survey for an environmental restoration project on a 70 acre parcel of land owned by the Arizona State Land Department. The purpose of the survey was to identify and record archaeological sites that may be eligible for inclusion to the National Register of Historic Places.
This project involves the environmental restoration of a state land parcel that is contaminated with insecticides. The project area was once leased as an airstrip used primarily for crop-dusting in the 1960s and 1970s.
One prehistoric Hohokam habitation site (AZ AA:6:51 [ASM]) and two IOs were recorded in the project area. Site AZ AA:6:51 (ASM) covers most of the eastern half of the project area. The surface disturbances from farming, grading, and construction of the Central Arizona Project Canal to the north have made the estimation of the site boundaries difficult.
