Phase I Cultural Resource Survey of Little Rock Air Force Base, Pulaski County, Arkansas

Author(s): Robert F. Cande

Year: 1997

Summary

In 1995, Geo-Marine, Inc., under contract to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, conducted an archeological survey of Little Rock Air Force Base, Pulaski County, Arkansas, and associated lands. As a result of this intensive survey, 37 previously unrecorded archeological sites and 16 non-site localities or isolated finds were located and recorded on Little Rock AFB. Of the 37 archeological sites that were located, three are presently identified as being entirely prehistoric in date, while the remaining 34 are historic sites. Of the 37 sites, it is recommended that 34 be considered ineligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The remaining three sites (3PU422, 3PU444, and 3PU450), however, may have some research potential, and it is recommended that these sites be considered of unknown eligibility for inclusion in the NRHP and be protected until the evaluation process can be completed.
