    These images are various division master plans for the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. Included are topographic maps in reference to headquarter, interpretation, road and trail systems, archaeological base map, general utilities and general development. The information reflects a very comprehensive future endeavor to revamp the monument.

    This project contains scanned images of Architectural Documentation of the Great House at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. The documents were prepared by the Office of Archeology and Historic Preservation at Ohio State University Columbus under the Direction of the National Park Service. The architectural documentation was prepared using terrestrial photogrammetry and a phototheodolite.

Resources within this project include: condition assessments, reports, architectural drawings, images, and other related documents. Project work began in 1996 and continued through 2000. This project was funded by the National Park Service under a Cooperative Agreement with the University of Pennsylvania #144CA125097001 and 7029-2-0001.

  • Astronomical Applications, Observations and Implications of the Great House at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument

    This project concerns the astronomical features of the Great House at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. It covers all times periods of Hohokam existence including the Pioneer, Colonial, Sedentary and Classic periods. There are comparisons drawn to other prehistoric sites such as Chichen Itza in their construction and application. There is discussion regarding the use of the astronmical features to track the winter and summer solstices.

  • Cosmos Mindeleff

    Cosmos Mindeff reported on the stabilization and preservation activities at Casa Grande Ruins in 1891 in the Thirteenth Annual Report of the Bureau of Ethnology. This work is the first known incident of the federal government actively preserving a prehistoric site. Casa Grande Ruins was established as the first cultural preserve the following year in 1892. Additional documents within this project include maps, correspondence, and references related to this work.

    This project regards the Grewe archaeological site in Coolidge, Arizona. Included are reports, maps and images of the Grewe site and surrounding related sites. The project examines ceramic form, material, use and manufacture along with sketches of artifact found. Other artifacts detailed are arrow heads and shell.
