The enclosed materials provide adequate documentation to establish the significance of Randolph Field as an eligible historic district in the area of military history under National Register Criterion A. Building 156 was built during the second era (c. 1943) and served as the Post Photo lab. The structure is eligible for listing as a contributing element within an eligible historic district significant under Criterion A in the area of military history.

The reconnaissance level survey of Randolph Air Force Base was conducted in order to assess areas with a high potential for intact sites. Randolph Air Force Base consists of 2,894 acres of Air Force lands in eastern Bexar County, Texas. The survey was concentrated along the perimeter of the base although subsurface construction activities throughout the base were monitored. No archeological resources were identified during the investigations and no further work is recommended.

A thorough review of the proposal for the construction of an ADA ramp at Hangar 72 was completed. The construction will have a “no adverse effect” on the historic significance of the building if it is a non-conspicuous addition. To insure the Secretary of the Interior’s guidelines are met, Randolph Air Force Base requests that CEV provide a construction drawing of the proposed project. It is also suggested that the community planner be given the opportunity to comment.

This comment form should be used for project work on historic properties. The project to renovate the interior restrooms on the first floor of Building 112 was completed. It was determined that the undertaking had "no adverse effect" on the building. This correspondence also details conditions that need to be met in order for the project to reach completion.

The office of the SHPO was given the opportunity to comment on the project to renovate the exterior of Building 118. Modification to the building’s facade as shown in the attached elevation was deleted. The revised elevation was sent to the office of the SHPO. If these conditions are met Section 106 coordination is complete.

Coordination with the SHPO and the ACHP was completed on the replacement of barrel tile roofing. US Tile’s “El Camino Blend” shall be used for the attached roofing projects. A project to change the existing clay tile on the NCO Duplex units to either met-tile or standing seam would be determined to have an Adverse Effect on the historic units and the historic district.
