Comparative Perspectives on European Colonization in the Americas: Papers in Honor of Réginald Auger
Part of: Society for Historical Archaeology 2020
This collection contains the abstracts of the papers presented in the session entitled "Comparative Perspectives on European Colonization in the Americas: Papers in Honor of Réginald Auger," at the 2020 annual meeting of the Society for Historical Archaeology.
This session reviews the substantial contributions to the historical archaeology of the Americas by Professor Réginald Auger of Université Laval, Québec City, his collaborators, colleagues and his current and former students. Presentations reflect the major geographical regions of his research: the Canadian Atlantic Provinces, Québec City, and French Guiana. The works of Professor Auger and his students are often grounded in both contextual and environmental archaeology and materials research as emphasized by his department. They also address the shifting currents of theoretical interests since the 1980s. The broad geographical and cultural purview of these papers also allows for taking a comparative perspective on French and British colonialism in the New World. Presentations are made in both English and French.
