SITE The ASM number of the site under investigation.
VARCHAR  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Site none none true
FEATURE_NUMBER The number of a feature identified and documented in a given PD unit. At each site, feature numbers were assigned from 1 to n. Subfeature numbers include the associated feature number followed by a decimal; subfeature numbers begin at .01 for each feature. For example, the second subfeature excavated in Feature 15 is coded as 15.02.
BIGINT  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Feature ID/Number none none true
TIME_DATE_STAMP The date stamp generated by the Advanced Revelation (AREV) database software when the record was originally created in the data set.
VARCHAR  Uncoded Value uncategorized none none true
AUDIT_VERSION The Soil Systems, Inc. relational database originally contained audit tables for each artifact/analysis type to track updates/changes made to the primary data tables. Database managers recorded changes to particular data values in these audit tables. The changes were then passed on to the main data table (e.g., RS_CERAMICS). The AUDIT_VERSION number refers to the "audit number" for that particular row. Thus, if a data row contains an AUDIT_VERSION value of "2", then that row has been updated/changed with the audit-version number 2 (i.e., it has been updated two times).
BIGINT  Uncoded Value uncategorized none none true
PD The Provenience Designation (PD) number. A PD is any area that has been examined by archaeological researchers during a given project. PD numbers are assigned to all examined areas, even when no artifacts were collected. For each site, PD numbers run from 1 to n.
BIGINT  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Horizontal Location none none true
FEATURE_TYPE The inferred type (i.e., function and/or cultural use, significance) of a given feature. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Feature Type Coding Sheet for a list of available feature types.
BIGINT  Coded Value Provenience and Context : Feature ID/Number Soil Systems, Inc. Feature Type Coding Sheet none true
INTEGRITY A general assessment of the types and severity of disturbance that have impacted a given PD unit and associated cultural contexts. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Provenience Integrity Coding Sheet for a list of available integrity descriptions.
BIGINT  Coded Value Provenience and Context : Context Soil Systems, Inc. Provenience Integrity Coding Sheet none true
STRUCTURAL_UNIT_TYPE The type description of a defined structural unit. Structural unit types include Stripping Area (SA), Habitation Area (HA), Burial Group (BG), etc. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Structural Unit Type Coding Sheet for a complete list of structural unit type codes.
VARCHAR  Coded Value Provenience and Context : Horizontal Location Soil Systems, Inc. Structural Unit Type Coding Sheet none true
COLLECTION_UNIT_TYPE The type of collection unit (CU) from which a given artifact sample was taken. CU types include surface units (SU), Test Unit (TU), Excavation Unit (XU), Backhoe Trench (BHT), etc. Please refer to Soil Systems, Inc. Collection Unit Type Coding Sheet for a complete list of unit types.
BIGINT  Coded Value Provenience and Context : Horizontal Location Soil Systems, Inc. Collection Unit Type Coding Sheet none true
UNIT_AREA_NUMBER The number designation of any unit division of a site. When a site is particularly large and/or the cultural deposits complex, the site director might choose to divide the site into units.
BIGINT  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Horizontal Location none none true
RECORDER The initials of the individual(s) who documented and conducted data recovery in a given PD unit.
VARCHAR  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Recovery Method none none true
LEVEL The number designation assigned to a level in a collection unit. Levels in a collection unit are numbered from 1 to n. The modern ground surface is designated level 0. Backhoe trenches, shovel skimming, backdirt, and stripping are also coded as level 0. For non-burial subfeatures, levels are designated as separate levels in that subfeature, and not as the level of the feature it is in. For burial features, levels are designated as separate levels in the burial pit and are numbered from 1 to n. This level designation system holds even in burial pits that contain multiple burials (and thus have subfeature numbers) in a single pit.
BIGINT  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Vertical Position none none true
PROJECT The SSI project number during which these PD units were defined/investigated/excavated.
VARCHAR  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Project none none true
AVERAGE_BEGINNING_ELEVATION The average beginning elevation of a PD unit prior to excavation. All measurements are in meters. See the ELEVATION_REFERENCE column for the reference point (measured below datum, measured below ground surface, etc) for each elevation measurement.
DOUBLE  Measurement (meter) Provenience and Context : Vertical Position none none true
AVERAGE_ENDING_ELEVATION The average ending elevation of a PD unit after excavation. All measurements are in meters. See the ELEVATION_REFERENCE column for the reference point (measured below datum, measured below ground surface, etc) for each elevation measurement.
DOUBLE  Measurement (meter) Provenience and Context : Vertical Position none none true
COLLECTION_UNIT_NUMBER The number designation of a given collection unit. For each site, collection units are numbered in a series from 1 to n within each collection unit type. For example, at one site there may be a Surface Unit #1, and an Excavation Unit #1, and an Auger Test Unit #1. Backhoe trenches are also numbered consecutively per site. CU numbers are not assigned to all CU Types; they are not assigned to CU types that represent partial units and/or are voided contexts.
BIGINT  Uncoded Value Provenience and Context : Horizontal Location none none true

Notes

General Note: Soil Systems analysts stored all provenience and artifact data for post-Hohokam Expressway Pueblo Grande projects in a relational database program called Advanced Revelations (AREV). The provenience and artifact data tables were standardized within this database. Thus, the PD data tables from this project and other Pueblo Grande projects were created in a table named PD_DATA, and saved in this table. The data sheet presented here has been extracted from the PD_DATA table in SSI's AREV database.

General Note: The PD data from this project should be directly compatible with the PD data from all other Soil Systems, Inc. Pueblo Grande projects, because the data were created in a standardized format (see above). Users can easily integrate this PD data with the data from other SSI projects.

General Note: Please note that SSI recorded the Pueblo Grande number as AZ U:9:7(ASM), which is the designation for a portion of Pueblo Grande. The correct number for the site as a whole is AZ U:9:1(ASM).
