Summary

Cultural resources survey and archival research for various routing alternatives for the Utilities-Power/Other-Industrial Area (Phase 2) Component of the Peacekeeper Program at F.E. Warren Air Force Base (AFB), Wyoming, identified 18 cultural properties and 2 isolated artifacts. Eleven properties are located within the Component impact area as currently sited. The Air Force, in consultation with the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), has determined that 7 of these 11 properties are eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). An eighth property (48-LA-71CC) already was listed on the Wyoming Inventory as NRHP-eligible. It has been determined that four of these NRHP-eligible properties (48-LA-71X, 48-LA-71Y, 48-LA-71CC, and 48-LA-482) will be adversely affected by ground disturbance associated with project construction; there will be no effect on the other four sites (48-LA-446, 48-LA-448, 48-LA-483, and 48-LA-484).

A combination of avoidance, onsite data recovery associated with other Peacekeeper Program Components, and construction monitoring will be used to mitigate adverse effects. In addition, archeological monitoring of all ground-disturbing activities associated with this Component will occur to ensure against loss of subsurface archeological materials that were not discovered during onsite survey.
